Don't be such a soda cracker!

When clients seek coaching in the area of confidence, one of the first things we explore is their level of resilience. After all, it's one of the primary muscles upon which confidence is built. My father-in-law would say, "You got to learn how to not break up like soda crackers; they're good for nothing but soup."

Let's face it; you cannot escape life's punches to the gut. But if you can learn to take a punch, you will at least be good for something other than soup. Still, building these muscles doesn't start when the punch is thrown; rather long before you step into the ring.

So here are 3 surprising ways to start building resilience now:

  • Let go. When you see the end of your rope... ask, "What am I holding that I need to let go?" Perhaps you'll avoid some rope-burns too. (1 Pet. 5:7)

  • Check your energy. If your words or attitude are sapping air from the room, they are also sapping energy from you - cut it out. Take a breath and permit yourself to start a new moment. Misery loves company but does not deserve it. (Ps. 19:14)

  • Vibe with your tribe. Make a priority of getting together with people who honor and celebrate you sincerely. You don't need many or much... the right look from the right person can hit a reset button in the soul; it's a button only this kind of light can heal. (Prov. 27:17)

Try any one of these resilience-builders to gain strength for when tough times come a'knocking. Resilience isn't about side-stepping hardship, but it's about not being stopped when it comes your way.
