Fan Your Own Flame

"We didn't start the fire.
It was always burning
since the world was turning."

- Billy Joel, 1989

Let’s talk fire—the holy kind.

When Paul wrote the words of 2 Tim. 1:6 to Timothy, he wasn’t being poetic. He was being urgent. Timothy had been chosen, anointed, and gifted. But even with all that, Paul knew his flame could flicker. You too?

And no one was questioning whether God lit the fire—He did. But it was Timothy’s job to fan it. You too.

There's a fire inside of you, that you didn’t start. God did it. When He breathed life into your lungs, when the Spirit stirred up boldness in that quiet prayer, when purpose cracked open your chest and made you feel alive again—that was the spark. It happened when you heard the gospel and believed. (Eph. 1:13)

But here’s the thing about fire: it doesn’t burn forever unless you tend it.

Remember Moses? That bush burned without burning out, but only because it was God’s fire. And what did Moses do? He turned aside to look closer. He got curious. He leaned in. And that moment changed everything.

Some of us keep waiting on a fresh fire when God is waiting on us to pick up the fan.

Your flame may not be flaming right now. You might even feel like you're running on smoke. But hear this: if there’s even a flicker, it can still catch wind. And when the Spirit breathes on it—watch out.

Right about now, you're probably thinking: “Yes… but how?” Well, the enemy would love for you to stay stuck in that question. But not today, friend. We’re about to pour some lighter fluid on what’s already been sparked. And surprise—in this Kingdom, less fanning is more.

Let’s talk about what we’re no longer doing so your flame can really catch wind:

Power TO DON’T Move:

Don’t outsource your fire. Stop waiting for applause, alignment, or outside validation. You don’t need another confirmation when you already have a commission. God lit the spark—you are the one called to keep it burning.

Power Move:

Tend to your flame like it’s sacred—because it is. Pray like it’s oxygen. Obey like it’s fuel. Protect your passion like it’s holy ground. You are the keeper of your calling—and when you show up with even a flicker of faith, the Holy Spirit does the rest.

In this way, you are fanning your own flame with prayer, obedience, and bold faith. Show up to your own calling like it matters—because it does.
